Kimmel Carter Founding Partner Morton Kimmel Receives Order of the First State from Gov. Jack Markel

Yesterday, our founding partner Morton Kimmel and managing partner Larry Kimmel were invited to Governor Jack Markell’s office to help congratulate our associate, Brian Legum, for his work in the Delaware Hispanic Commission. However, what Mr. Kimmel didn’t know was that he was not there for Brian. He was actually there to receive Delaware’s highest award: the Order of the First State.

Mr. Kimmel, Larry, and Brian sat down to talk with Governor Markell about Brian’s accomplishments, but when the conversation moved toward Mr. Kimmel’s achievements and his family appeared, he began to realize the meeting might not be exactly what he was expecting.

Gov. Markell presented the award to Mr. Kimmel, who was surrounded by his family. He praised Mr. Kimmel for his lifelong dedication to improving the lives of Delawareans and his relentless devotion to the community, his family, and his clients.

Among his accomplishments, Mr. Kimmel has served as one of Delaware’s top personal injury attorneys for over 50 years and has tried more than 100 cases. His impeccably successful track record has allowed him to gain experience arguing before the Supreme Court of Delaware and other appeals courts, as well as granting him the position of mediator for the Delaware Superior Court. Throughout his years as an attorney, Mr. Kimmel continues to receive prestigious national awards including being named to the Delaware Super Lawyers list, the U.S. News and World Report: Best Lawyers list and the Best Lawyers in America list.

Aside from his work as an attorney, Mr. Kimmel is actively involved in several charitable organizations. As the founder and president of the First State Police Foundation, Mr. Kimmel leads projects that address public safety in local communities. He also founded the Blue-Gold High School All-Star Basketball Games, which is the primary annual fundraiser benefiting Best Buddies of Delaware. Other charitable organizations in which Mr. Kimmel serves include the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware, Cancer Care Connection, and the Kimmel-Spiller Charitable Foundation.

Gov. Markell commended Mr. Kimmel for all his hard work and dedication in the community, and we all agree – Mr. Kimmel has done extraordinary things for the firm and our community.
