On February 4th 2021, Kansas City Chiefs outside linebackers coach Britt Reid, son of head coach Andy Reid, was involved in a 3 car pile-up.
A disabled Chevrolet Impala was stranded on an exit ramp, while the driver of a Chevrolet Traverse assisted the stranded motorist. A Dodge Ram truck allegedly driven by Britt Reid then struck both vehicles.
A 4-year-old and 5-year-old in the Chevrolet Traverse were taken to the hospital, with the 5-year old sustaining a severe traumatic brain injury due to the crash. On February 16th 2021, the child regained consciousness; however, the severe traumatic brain injury may have long term effects.
Britt Reid admitted to being under the influence while driving. He is currently being investigated for impairment.
According to the CDC, in 2014, an estimated 812,000 children were treated in the United States Emergency Departments for concussion or TBI. Furthermore, TBI is a contributing factor in one-third of all injury-related deaths in the United States.
