The Depo-Provera injection is a birth control shot/injection that is typically given once every three months.
Recently, several legal concerns and cases have arisen related to the drug's side effects, risks, and the adequacy of its labeling.
One risk in particular is patients who have used Depo Provera for one (1) year or more (or at least 4 injections), have shown that they may be more likely to develop meningiomas, a type of tumor that develops in the brain or spine when the medication is used for over a year. Treatment for meningioma may include medications, radiation or surgery.
Despite the drug’s manufacturer being aware of this serious risk, patients potentially have claims they were not adequately warned about the risks or that they were not given the necessary information to make an informed decision about using the contraceptive method.
If someone is considering legal action related to Depo-Provera, they would typically need to show that they suffered a significant adverse effect as a result of using the product, and that the manufacturer did not adequately warn about the risks involved.
